CO₂ Tolerance Check – Breathing That Powers Performance

How long can you hold your breath after a gentle exhalation?
This simple test shows how efficiently your body handles CO₂ – a key factor for endurance and recovery.


Here’s how it works:
You need a stopwatch and a few minutes of calm.

  1. Sit up straight and take three gentle breaths in and out through your nose.
  2. Breathe out gently, then hold your breath and start your stopwatch.
  3. Stop when you feel the first noticeable urge to breathe and check the time.
  • < 15 sec. – Low tolerance: Work on calmer, more controlled breathing.
  • 15–25 sec. – Solid foundation: Stable breathing, good base for endurance training.
  • 25–35 sec. – Efficient: Ideal balance for longer runs.
  • > 35 sec. – Pro level: Very economical breathing and strong CO₂ regulation.
